Murnau am Staffelsee

Bahnhof Murnau am Staffelsee, Bavaria, Germany (Murnau railway station). The station plays an important role in the region’s transportation network and is notable for its connection to artists like Wassily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter, who lived and worked in Murnau. The station was opened in 1879 as part of the railway expansion in Bavaria. It lies on the Munich–Garmisch-Partenkirchen railway line, making it an important stop for travelers heading to the Bavarian Alps. Murnau also serves as the starting point of the Ammergaubahn (Ammergau Railway), a scenic line connecting Murnau to the town of Oberammergau. Kandinsky frequently traveled through Murnau station during his visits to the town, where he developed his distinctive artistic style. It is believed that he painted a view of the station or its surroundings in his Murnau period (1908–1910), where he experimented with bright colors and bold forms. The station building is a mix of traditional Bavarian design with some modern updates. Today, Murnau station remains a key transport hub, with regional trains connecting it to Munich, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Oberammergau.
